The Uttarakhand Bio- Fuel Board is the apex body to promote Jatropha Plantation programme in the State of Uttarakhand. Since the formation of the Board, it has achieved remarkable progress and awareness has been propagated for the Biofuel in the State.

The Board is promoting plantation and maintenance of the Jatropha curcas with the close coordination of the Forest Department in the degraded wasteland of the State. A transterification unit for processing of Jatropha seeds is being commissioned in Biharigarh area of the State by the June 08. The Jatropha Plantation programme is very significant step taken by the Govt. of Uttarakhand. The programme is entirely implemented by the Board. The programme is not only promoting our State to self independency in the green energy sector but also providing opportunity of self employment to the BPL community, who are living in the vicinity of the Forest. Apart from the environment protection, the plantation of Jatropha curcas is also preventing soil erosion, checking land slides, providing vegetation in wastelands in the hilly area of the State.

The Board has a target to cover 2 lakh degraded and wasteland in the State. We are persistently moving forward to generate sustainable self employment to the marginalized people, simultaneously supporting our State to be self sufficient in the green energy sector.
