Uttarakhand Biofuel Board with its consistent efforts has embarked upon a unique programme ideally suited for the hill state of Uttarakhand. The programme generated Sustained Rural Employment for the Below Poverty Line people living in the hills when there is no livelihood especially for women. SC/ST and women empowerment is the focus of the Jatropha Plantation Programme.

The programme is purely engaged in Jatropha Curcas Plantation in degraded forest land, managed by Van Panchayats. Green cover to the barren hills, protection of soil erosion and improvement in the environment, besides providing energy security by means of extracting green fuel from Jatropha seeds are some of the primary objectives of Uttarakhand Biofuel Board.

Further the Jatropha Curcas plantation brings banking awareness amongst the beneficiaries as all payments are being done through account payee cheques to individuals. Till now 7863 banks account have been opened for the beneficiaries who are benefiting from the programme of plantation.

The programme which is fully supported by the forest department and the State of Uttarakhand has taken lead ahead of all other states of India. Our endeavor is to make the programme successful in the years to come so that the State of Uttarakhand becomes self reliant in its energy need.
